Her parents bought their long-term family home in Kingstanding under the Right-to-Buy scheme. It is the only Conservative policy they have ever endorsed and Selena continues to support it, but believes it needs to go hand-in-hand with more affordable housing construction.
She won the Erdington seat of Birmingham in the 2001 election, replacing Robin Corbett, who became Baron Corbett of Castle Vale. Following in his footsteps, she gained her first Official position in 2005, as a Labour Party Whip, but stepped down when Tony Blair resigned the Leadership.
